We've lived in our house know for right at 5 years. That seems crazy to me! The time has just flown by! We've had 2 kiddos since then and so there are a lot of little projects around the house that I have really been wanting to do but, like I said, we've had 2 kiddos, and so they just got put on the back burner (the projects, not the kids)!
Well, a couple of weeks ago my wonderful hubby took (almost) a whole week off work so we could finally work on some of those projects. The two big things we worked on were the light fixture in the entryway and painting what I lovingly call the "stupid" room. The paint turned out fabulous and the light fixture is good, but not quite what I was hoping for.
I don't exactly have a "before" picture of the REALLY ugly light that has been hanging in our entryway, but from the first couple of pictures, you'll get the idea. Seriously shiny brass....
...and this "lovely" ring of glass panels hung around the light, very 1985?!
So the plan was to have to cut this part off the light, but once we got it down we were able take the whole thing apart and just slide this piece off! Bonus : ) It also made it a whole lot easier to paint too.
The next few steps were super easy. I already had some brown spray paint so I just laid everything out and sprayed it. It took a couple of coats to get all the nooks and crannies of the chain and it took a lot longer for it all to dry than I expected.
The worst part was getting it put back together and wired up. It does look a WHOLE LOT better, but now I feel like it looks a little "scrawny". But hey, it was free, so I can't complain too much!!
Now on to the "stupid" room. I call it this because the room really has no purpose. For as long as we have lived here it has just been kind of a catch all room for stuff we don't have any other place to put. I think it is supposed to be a dinning room, but it's too small to function well as one. Our plan is to turn it into sort of a sitting room/office/reading area. We have bookshelf to go in there and we want to get a simple (not cluttered) desk so we can keep the computer in an open place and not in a bedroom or secluded area. (We have 2 boys and I know they are still young, but I want them to just grow up with the idea that the computer will be in a "public" place.) We also want to get a comfy reading chair. I also have this grand idea stuck in my head for a storage bench and some hooks for things like jackets and backpacks, etc....but that's a whole other blog post ; )
Step one of transforming the "stupid" room was to get rid of the AWFUL paint color! We kept putting the painting off because we weren't exactly sure what we were going to do with the room, therefore we weren't really sure what color we wanted to paint. Finally we got a plan together and just bit the bullet so to speak.
All the painting was done after "bedtime" so the lighting in the pics is not that great. The color was pretty much what baby poop looks like after the kid has eaten a lot of squash. And I don't know if you can tell in this pic or not, but it was a crummy paint job too.
At this point I'm thinking "Man, even the color of the primer is better than what's on the walls now!"
And here is the finished product. I LOVE it!! The color is called crimson. Now I just wish I had an extra few hundred dollars laying around so we could get the rest of the stuff we want and get the room all pulled together. Who knows, that may take another five years.....I hope not!!
I hope you all have a fabulous and restful weekend! Blessings!!
